Carrots
Carrots have provided their
own unique challenge this year: raw product availability. The big question early this year
was where will the carrots come from? We were able to secure the
needed acreage for our baby whole and sliced carrot packs. Although
both crops followed the 10-day late start date trend this year, they
are progressing as expected.
Raw product availability
posed a real challenge to our diced carrot pack. High prices
available for wheat and grain corn diverted acres normally reserved
for other crops. One of National’s major diced carrot growers
could only lease half his normal acreage from the landowner. Thus, a
larger void was created in National’s ability to get dicer
carrots. In the end stocks
will continue to be tight, but a budget pack is expected.
